Stop Mind Chatter With Controlled Attention.

The classic way to quieten what the Chinese call the Monkey mind, is to meditate. Whilst it is the first point of call for many, for others who have a very active lifestyle or simply need to move rather than sit still, this is not an attractive option. Often very active people who enjoy dangerous sports or those who are drawn to forms of repetitive gym work; cycling / running / swimming, or even workaholics, all have something in common - they chose an activity or life style that requires high levels of concentration. What is the attraction and why is it so addictive? When they are in this state their mind stops wandering and becomes still as they need to be fully focused on the task in hand. The feeling of calmness (often felt as a pleasant physical exhaustion) that results, is not only from physical exhaustion but also because the mind is exhausted from such concentration, and for a short while it is blessedly still.
There is however another way to calm down the wayward mind, one that stays longer, one that can be drawn upon at any time, and one that is much better suited to the majority of people. It uses the reasoning behind the above but uses low impact movement for both those people that need to do something, and also for those who are not so driven, but have difficulty in sitting still.

Smooth rhythmical movements are the answer
The smooth gentle and rhythmic movements of Qi gong will allow you to feel your whole body as you move, encouraging you to focus your mind inside your body, and with a simple co-ordinated breath movement it will gradually quieten down your mind and bring it into a smooth gentle thought pattern to match the movements. Will this put you into a sort of trance or sleep? no it won't, your attention on your body will keep your mind fully present, you will be in complete control of yourself, it will raise your attention by bringing a calm and relaxed clarity to your thoughts.
By being fully present as you go through the movements, your mind and breath will gently fall into a slower pattern. Working in a group of like minded people, accelerates the experience, and allows you to slow your mind very quickly indeed. You will then have the tools to bring this calmer mind into any parts of your day within two to three minutes.
You work at your own level, the lessons only move at the pace of the people in the class. The success is in the system, just become quietly committed, turn up and practice - that's it.
